Max Talbot: The road to December 8th Source: The Pensblog
(Re-posted from October 3rd) To put in perspective how long Max Talbot wore a Penguins uniform, he probably accepted a pass or two from Mario Lemieux during game action. Talbot made the 2005-2006 opening-night roster and played 48 games, scoring 5G 3A . The most memorable moment of that first season was his first career NHL goal: He played the rest of that 2005-2006 season in Wilkes-Barre, but Pens fans knew he'd be back. He was scrappy; he was little; you rooted for him. A handful of games into the 2006-2007 season, he returned to Pittsburgh and didn't leave until July 1, 2011. If we had to pinpoint something memorable he did during the 06-07 season, it was helping to ignite the furious comeback in Washington. Interestingly enough, his 13 goals that season is his career-high. Not kidding. Then came the 2007-2008 season. We're guessing this is when that first A&L commercial came out. His popularity among Pens fans exploded, and he was still committed to bringing everything he had, even though he was a victim of the High Ankle Sprain curse that swept throughout the Pens locker room. The playoffs came around, and the Pens rolled through the Eastern Conference. In Game Two of the ECF against the Flyers, he scored a huge goal to put the Pens in front halfway through the third. We remember this because, one, it was a huge goal, two, there's a great pic of it and, three, Gary Roberts assisted on it … Continued here

Sidney Crosby’s Return to the Pittsburgh Penguins: What It Meant for Fans Source: Bleacher Report
Monday night, Pittsburgh Penguins fans such as myself held our collective breath, as, for the first time in 320 days, Sidney Crosby, the savior of the Penguins franchise, took the ice. I cannot provide hard-hitting statistics, citing the improvement in goals per shift, the increase in total team rating or whatever complex number ESPN comes up with next. The only statistics that matter are two goals and two assists in sixteen minutes. Crosby was everything fans had expected, dazzling everyone but himself with a move that reminded us all that we are all “Witnesses” to a loyal, level-headed, winning young player who could rewrite the record books. What we know for certain is that this game only added to the lore of Sid the Kid, and what we love is the fact that this team may be better than the 2009 Stanley Cup champion Pens that had Sid lift the Cup for the first time. For fans like myself who had looked at their collection of 87 jerseys in the closet with despair as rumors swirled that Crosby’s career may be at risk, Monday night was like Christmas morning a month early. Like it or not, Crosby is not just the face of a rebuilt franchise; Crosby is the face of a rebuilt NHL. … Read this article

RECAP: All The Bing’s Men. PENS WIN. Source: The Pensblog
Lange's goal calls: There's a reason this night and this game was picked. It had nothing to do with the Islanders. It had nothing to do with anything other than Sidney Crosby himself. He wasn't going to return until he was 115% ready. Sure, he has some conditioning to take care of. Sure, we won't see him on the penalty kill for a while, if ever, considering how the PK is doing so far this season. But he wasn't stepping onto the ice until he knew he could go out there and compete at the same level we all saw him at toward the tail end of 2010. And nothing has changed. Other than obviously the Penguins organization and Pittsburgh media, no one has a better grasp on Crosby's play than Pens fans. We all know what we watched last night. No one saw anything that suggests Crosby has lost a step or “something's not right.” In fact, he looks even better. The nightmare of him going scoreless for the first couple games and media members starting to chirp about Crosby's condition? Those visions were completely washed away not even 6 minutes into the game by Crosby himself. We'll never have to deal with it. Crosby is back. And he looks possessed. … Read this article

For those who haven't been keeping tabs, the Caps are in full meltdown mode. They had lost 6 of 7 before their win over Phoenix last night, which was overshadowed by Crosby's comeback. Ovechkin's play and Bruce Boudreau have become the focal points of the Washington turmoil. Ovechkin is facing questions every night about the Caps' problems, as well as his own non-headline-grabbing stat line thus far this season. RECAP: Yeah. We Got That. PENS WIN. Source: The Pensblog
The Pens are skating wounded. They have been since February 2011, but now it's getting ridiculous. Ben Lovejoy's out. Michalek's out. Niskanen was out for this one. The Pens' blue line this game included two guys who haven't suited up for the Penguins all season. It's pretty impressive that there weren't any defensive breakdowns; it was actually a couple of bizarre turnovers that almost did the Penguins in. That and the relentless slashing and stickwork from the Kings. It was getting ridiculous. But the Pens persevered. Kunitz tied it in the shadow of the final buzzer and then he won it in the shootout. Chris Kunitz nowhere to be found in the 3 Stars of the game. Should be an interesting week coming up. Crosby rumors should be coming to a boiling point. These past two games have us addicted to Western Conference hockey, and thankfully the Dallas Stars are coming to town on Friday. Read More for the recap… T.K … The rest is here

RECAP: Go To Sleep. PENS LOSE. Source: The Pensblog
Our friend Zoe at Puck Huffers brought this up about the game: the game felt just like every other Tomas Vokoun /Penguins game. Didn't even feel like a Caps/Pens game. Pens outshot the Caps, 41-19. 41 to 19. Games like that happen in the NHL. There's no reason to get bent out of shape about losing this game. It's the fifth game of the season. No one should start getting irrational till at least the 20-game mark. Plus, the Caps looked horrrrrrrrrible . Like, really bad. Their two goals in regulation came on a bizarre play by Mike Knuble and a lucky deflection. The Caps generated no offense at all. But it was the Tomas Vokoun Show. He made 39 saves while being peppered all night.
