Pittsburgh Penguins: Success Despite Injuries Points to Major Turnaround Source: Bleacher Report
The rest of the NHL should take note of what is brewing in western Pennsylvania because the Pittsburgh Penguins are finding their steam without the help of superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, a seemingly nightmarish situation for a team that depends highly on their skill centers. RECAP: Patch Adams. PENS WIN. Source: The Pensblog
Sometime this upcoming summer, we are going to sit down and list some rules you have to remember when watching a Pens game. Rule 1.4 is going to be: “Whenever the Penguins play the Islanders and the Isles start a goalie no one has heard of, expect that goalie to play out of his mind.” Rule 1.5 is going to be “Rick DiPietro sucks.” Hell, Rule 1.4 would go for any team the Pens play, not just the Islanders. If you didn't expect the Isles goalie, rookie Kevin Poulin, to play well, then you're an idiot. He made some solid saves and looks like he is going to be good. Patrick Roy likes him, but Roy is a dick. At the other end, though, Marc-Andre Fleury was a $5mill-per-year goalie for the second game in a row. If the Isles had scored one goal in this game, they would've never looked back … See more here

2011 NHL Winter Classic: Which Pens Are “Allowed Out” on New Year’s Day? Source: Bleacher Report
On my site (www.GuysNation.com), one of my authors wrote an interesting article breaking down the roster scenarios for the upcoming 2011 NHL Winter Classic hockey game between the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here’s his perspective on the Pittsburgh Penguins: For the past three years, the National Hockey League has treated us to a one of a kind game on New Year’s Day. Two NHL teams take over a largeoutdoor venue and play a regular season game, reminiscentof kids playing on a frozen pond. Weather isn’t a factor, as the teams have been known to brave extreme cold and snow. This tradition is known as the Winter Classic. In case you’re unaware, 2011’s rendition of the Winter Classic features what is arguably the biggest rivalry in hockey today. The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals will square offin Pittsburgh at Heinz Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The whole world will have an opportunity to watch the league’s two prominent stars, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin, showcase their abilities. If it’s anything like their previous meetings, you won’t want to miss it. … Read this article

Sidney Crosby’s Slew-Footing of Ryan Callahan Should Lead To Serious Crackdown Source: Bleacher Report
Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins is the latest NHL superstar to be branded with the loathsome label that comes from slew-footing an opposing player after his actions against the New York Rangers’ Ryan Callahan late in the first period of Monday’s game. Both players were hustling towards center ice when Crosby caught up to Callahan and intentionally slew-footed the right-winger. Strangely, it was Callahan who was penalized for interference rather than Crosby who committed the dangerous and uncalled-for misdeed despised by hockey purists. While interviewed during the first intermission, Callahan’s teammate Brandon Dubinsky accused Crosby of the controversial action, “That’s a dirty play. He’s a guy who tries to get away with a lot of that stuff. He complains a lot.” Rule number 52 of the Official NHL Rulebook defines the current actions that can be taken against players who is found to have slew-footed another player: 52.1 Slew-footing – Slew-footing is the act of a player or goalkeeper using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice … Read the rest here

Pens Newbie Corner – What If That Game Was* More Exciting?!

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

(*Grammar Nazis: “had been.”) …I would probably crap myself. Or puke. Or have a heart attack, involuntarily rip my hair out, or the like. But no, the Penguins visiting the Sabres in HSBC Arena this Wednesday was perfect for me as a game to attend, and a win to boot! :D

This is just an opinion post. It’s not any kind of in-depth summary or review, or anything like that. So if you’re looking for one of these, you are welcome to go elsewhere. You can find one in plenty of places at this point, probably starting here. …For those who are staying, there’s a slideshow at the end, wooOOOooo!!!

…My first attendance at an NHL game ever… I like that. :) It was definitely a new experience for me, a great starting point when it comes to attending NHL games! There were sooooo many new things to absorb, and I tried my best to soak in as much as I could. The fact that I had such a striking visual did so much good in helping me learn more, especially about the players themselves!

Things that I, personally discovered by attending this game… ;)

- Don’t ever feel so embarrassed when you do things dedicated to one goalie playing that evening and it turns out another’s in net. Loosen up, tightass. Get over yourself. Nobody really cares, and shit happens. That actually goes for all players.

- Comrie (who still sucked, I’m no good luck charm) is not #14, he’s #19. #14 is Kunitz. Close considering my handwriting, but when was I writing? …No cigar. Slacker. *cough*

- Dupuis is #9-not-8. While texting, remember to use the “my finger slipped” excuse FIRST, then immediately admit your mistake and joke about it, not vice versa. *innocent whistle*

- Intermission: stomach or bladder. Pick one. In some cases, you’ll probably miss the beginning of the next period anyway. It’s all about priorities.

- Geno didn’t score for you. This is unacceptable. He should be traded. Or you should forgive him. Just make up your damn mind, you snob.

- Third star of the game Sid rocks your socks more than you like to admit. First star Fleury’s back, bitch. You still love Johnson’s Led Zeppelin masks best, though, and that’s perfectly okay.

…Now to the pics!! Some are from my cell, a few twitpic’ed already. Most were taken with a (5+ year old) digital camera – whose clock reset to midnight February 2nd 2006 mid-game, UGH. But no worries! I chronologized (BIG WORD) allll the pics just for you! …Sorry for some blurry shots. Also, my sense of placement and timing is magnificent. …Trust me, I got rid of the really bad ones, haha! I am no expert photographer, that’s for sure… Plus my photo editing skillz suck, so didn’t bother with that. …You’ll forgive me, right? Heheh :P

Here you go, there are about 50 pics… ENJOYYYYY! :D
