Jagr Eyes Lemieux on NHL’s All-Time Points List Source: Bleacher Report
At the age of 40, Jaromir Jagr still looks up to Mario Lemieux , both figuratively and literally. With his 1,642 nd point in the NHL , Jaromir Jagr recently moved past Joe Sakic and into eighth place on the NHL’s all-time points list. While passing Sakic is certainly noteworthy, passing the next guy on the list will mean much, much more to Jagr. You see, the next player on the all-time points list is Mario Lemieux. On several occasions Jagr has stated that Lemieux was his idol and that he wouldn’t be the player he is today if it weren’t for Lemieux. In one of the more bizarre statistics in NHL history, before Lemieux came out of retirement during the 2000-01 season, Jagr had assisted on exactly 66 of Lemieux’s goals and Lemieux had assisted on exactly 68 of Jagr’s goals: their respective uniform numbers … Read more

Denver columnist responds to Pens blowback Source: The Pensblog
Dieter continued his jammed-up-edness in a recent blog post dated in the mid-afternoon on Sunday. He goes off on a tangent about Stub Hub again. Dieter wants to get his point across that 95% of the Pens fans at the Pepsi Center Saturday night are bandwagon fans, fans who wouldn't have been caught dead in a Pens jersey at the beginning of this millennium. Then he cites the Pens attendance numbers from 2002-2003 and 2003-2004, numbers that were definitely at the bottom of the barrel. To close it all out, Dieter takes the high road and says he's lived in Colorado for over 20 years and he respects the human beings that live in Denver. what the fuck. No clue what that has to do with sports. … See the rest here

RECAP: Rocky Mountain High. PENS WIN. Source: The Pensblog
At least one Pittsburgh team can win Denver. The Pens did what they needed to do: got a big lead and got the hell out of Colorado. The Stars and Avalanche aren't the 1980 Oilers or anything, but there's really no downside in the Pens riding into hostile road environments and taking 4 points. These 4 points move them to 81, 8 or so points behind the Rangers. David Copperfield making his first appearance of the season on Monday. And the secondary scoring is showing up almost on a nightly basis again…just in time for the playoffs. … View post

Uh-oh. Is obstruction back? Source: The Pensblog
Shelly Anderson did an article recently where Bylsma was talking about obstruction and some of the rules the NHL put in place coming out of the lockout. Basically, he said he would be in favor of putting the red line back in, essentially making two-line passes a forbidden practice again. It would slow the game down and prevent some injuries. On the flip side, it makes the rink more congested and gives obstruction a chance to seep back into the league, although some people are saying obstruction is already alive and well in the NHL. Bylsma 's game is speed up the ice, and if obstruction ever gets out of control, he'll be the first guy to say something. … See the article here

Catching up on Jeremy Lin Source: The Pensblog
If you're like us, it took a little while to look into this Jeremy Lin playing for the New York Knicks. We had heard about it in passing for like a week, and then the Linsanity reached critical mass. Basically, this guy is 23 years old and has bounced around the league seeing hardly any playing time. He went to Harvard and then went undrafted but eventually got picked up by someone. Fast-forward a couple years to December 2011, where the Knicks pick him up on waivers to act as nothing but insurance in an already deep backcourt . A couple injuries later (and a bad stretch of games for the Knicks), Lin was given the nod and has exploded. In his six games since seeing significant playing time, he has scored 25, 28, 23, 38, 20, and 27 points. Those 38 points came against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in a showdown this past Friday night at Madison Square Garden at a point where Linsanity was already taking off. … The rest is here

Pittsburgh Penguins: Evgeni Malkin’s Renewed Swagger Enough to Help Win Cup Source: Bleacher Report
