Brooks Orpik Injured—Penguins Continue to Suffer from the Injury Bug Source: Bleacher Report
No matter how the Pittsburgh Penguins season ends this year, one will have to ask himself what kind of a season it could have been without all of the injuries. From the beginning of the season, the Penguins suffered from the injury bug as Jordan Staal missed the first 39 games due to an infection in his foot, and then a broken hand. Evgeni Malkin, who looked under 100% all year, went down with a knee injury in early February. He is now out for the season. Sidney Crosby hasn’t played since January 6 due to a concussion, and might not return until mid-March. Crosby was in the middle of a career-best season … See the article here

Pittsburgh Penguins: Will a Return to Pittsburgh Reignite Winger Alexei Kovalev? Source: Bleacher Report
Ray Shero must not have been satisfied with just getting James Neal and Matt Niskanen, as he traded a seventh-round pick to the Ottawa Senators for former Pens winger Alexei Kovalev. Kovalev, now 38 years old, is returning to the Penguins after having some successful and unsuccessful stints in New York (Rangers), Montreal and most recently, Ottawa. With all of the injuries that the Penguins have experienced this year to Sidney Crosby , Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz, Mark Letestu and Aaron Asham, GM Ray Shero and the Pens were almost forced to trade for some more help offensively . The Pens scored big with power forward James Neal and have now added Kovalev to give them a lift offensively . Pens pick up another critical point. All you need to know. In a game that was critical to the Blackhawks, the Pens hung on to the bitter end. In the years before the Pens and Hawks started shooting to stardom, we saw the Hawks as a mirror image of the Pens, in terms of building through the draft, plugging holes with some tick turds making plays, and solid defense. The only parts that aren't similar: the egregious Brian Campbell contract and the fact that even some of the Blackhawks players don't know who their goalie is. Can't really find a reason to despise the Hawks. The Marian Hossa hate should've subsided when the Cup was raised in Detroit … Read more

WEB REDEMPTION: Olive Garden and Sex Source: The Pensblog
At the beginning of last season (the Civic Arena's final season), we took an idea and ran with it. The premise was for people to e-mail us their favorite Civic Arena memory. There were about 4 or 5 posted, and things were moving along well, but then we posted an e-mail that shook the foundation of the Internet. Sadly, said story is not available anywhere on the Internet. We inexplicably unpublished the post and deleted it once everyone found it was fraught with inconsistencies. We've done a hard target search in GMAIL and have come up empty. And even the sender of the e-mail, Sean, can't track it down in his “Sent” folder. So we are simply left with what our memory tells us. And our memory tells us that Sean e-mailed a story about a sexual escapade he had with his girlfriend in one of the suite boxes in the Civic Arena during a game against the Atlanta Thrashers. Before the game, he said, he took his girlfriend to the Olive Garden for a big-time meal to set the mood. Pittsburgh Penguins: Four Reasons They Will Survive Without Crosby, Malkin & Co. Source: Bleacher Report
Injuries breed adversity. The Pittsburgh Penguins face the unfortunate issue of an injury-depleted lineup at the peak of the team’s success. Fortunately for the Penguins, they have faced adversity before and still have many of the same cogs turning the wheels of this Penguins squad. Injuries to role players such as Chris Kunitz, Dustin Jeffery, Eric Tangradi and Arron Asham afflect this Penguins team, as well as major injuries to the Penguins two superstars, Evgeni Malkin (Torn ACL) and Sidney Crosby (Concussion). Since the Penguins sustained injuries not only to the bread-and-butter of their offensive talent, but also to the core of the team’s depth, it will be a tough stretch of hockey, with many ebbs and flows. Despite the injuries and the adversity that the Penguins face, they still have four reasons that their squad will remain a formidable foe in the Eastern Conference. … Excerpt from

NHL: Comparing Pens-Isles Brawl To Past Fights Is Comparing Apples To Oranges Source: Bleacher Report
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Penguins fans will always be too sensitive when they feel their team is being unfairly attacked and Pens haters will always say the NHL goes out of their way to protect them. When something big like the brawl on Long Island happens, everyone wants to compare it to something else and take bits and pieces from different games. Even if the games were 20 years ago (i.e. the Ulf Samuelsson comparisons that have been thrown around) … More here

Pittsburgh Penguins Memo: Get the Puck Out of NYC Source: Bleacher Report
This past weekend presented us with perhaps the strangest weekend so far in the Pittsburgh Penguins 20010-11 campaign. While the Penguins showed a toughness many people questioned they possessed, the key for a strong finish is simply to ignore what happened from a playing perspective and get ready for what may be a Crosby-less playoff chase. The Pens went into Long Island full well-knowing that the Islanders , desperately in need of some motivation and highlights for this season, were going to play physical in light of the Rick DiPietro-Brent Johnson fight. … Visit link
