Let The Games Begin!

So it comes down to the final countdown of the first opening game at the new Consol Energy Center. Another long awaited season of hockey is upon us. I know like most of our readers I couldn’t be more excited. And there are lots of reasons for the Pens and their fans to be excited this new season.

However, everything else aside the most exciting part of all this is the hockey! One of the most exciting sports around. I can not wait to enrich my everyday life with hockey. Once again experience the emotional roller-coaster of being a hockey fan. Once again experience the thrill of victory. Once again experience the agony of defeat. Fill my life with the human drama of athletic competition. Once again experience what its like to wake up in the morning on the game day and anxiously await for the for clock to tick down and the puck to drop. One again experience what its like to wake up in the morning the day after hockey game and find yourself unable to talk because you spend most of the last night yelling and cheering your team on. Once again experience losing your mind when your favorite player scores a goal and you just go all berserk like in excitement. Once again experience the frustration of seeing your team make mistakes and feel like if they would only let you on the ice you would show them what to do and how its done. Once again experience your insides cringe when hard hits are thrown on the ice and remorseless fights take place.

All of my insides are trembling as i am reliving some my past hockey experiences in my mind. We all remember seeing blood on the ice, seeing players getting carried out off the ice on the stretcher, seeing players leave the game and not come back for weeks or even months. All that reminds us of the hazardousness and danger of hockey but at same time all that adds to the excitement. All that reminds us of how much respect we have for the sport and the players. Hard to imagine being overly excited about reaching the top without feeling like you dodge a bullet or two, without putting your life on the line, without giving it everything you have in you and more. All that is what winning Stanley Cup all about, all that is what hockey all about, all that is why i love this sport. I am packing my bags and heading to the city of Pittsburgh. On Thursday i am being born again. Let the games begin and may the best team win!
