Monday, March 8th, 2010Have you forgotten to book a table!?!?!
The event takes place tomorrow Tuesday, March 9 at Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, PA between hours of 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
VIP Tables were only $10,000 dollars for 10 people and regular table for 10 people was only $7,500. If you have some spare change laying around the house i see no better use for it then to get drinks served by Evgeni Malking and Sidney Crosby! I wonder if this type of even is included in their contracts. Official event info on Penguins website.
Here is a video by Alyonka Larionov of the event last year. Alyonka left the Pittsburgh Penguins organization to be …

Post Game Interviews: Malkin, Crosby & Johnson
Geno @ 0:39 “I am shoot”
Thanks to EmptyNetters for Post Game Review:
- First things first. Henrik Lundqvist as outstanding. If not for him, this is an 8-3 rout.
- The Penguins did dominate this game. They controlled the puck most of the night, especially from the third period on. This game should not have gone to overtime. The Penguins should have won this game in regulation.
- Marc-Andre Fleury was the biggest reason for that. He simply was not good today. Needs to shake this off, (which he usualy does) and rebound Saturday.
- We’d say great effort by Johnson, but all he had to do was stop eight shots.
- What a great game for Jordan Staal. With Bill Guerin out, he inherited some of Guerin’s duties near the net on power plays. We would argue he did better than Guerin usually does from near the cage. He ended up getting picking up a point at least on the Penguins’ two goals. He finished with two goals and an assist.
- Again, we realize it was born out of necessity, but the seven-man defensive group needs to go.
- Martian Gaborik much mean a lot in New York.
- Malkin ended up with “only” one assist, but we really like his play tonight. He was very aggressive. He attacked the offensive zone and he set up Pascal Dupuis on a few quality chances.
- Are we alone in wondering if Dupuis desersve a better chance on the second line with Malkin and Alexei Ponikarovsky instead of Fedotneko?
- Chris Kunitz stepped up in the absense of Guerin. He went to the net, got dirty and created all sorts of havoc for Lundqvist.
- We like what we saw out of Talbot tonight. He was physical and he had some hop in his step. Slowly but surly, he’s finally starting to get int ot game shape.
- The Penguins blew the Rangers away in shots, 55-16.
- From the third period on, the Penguins had 23 shots. The Rangers had one.
- Dupuis led the game with 10 shots. Dang.
- Jordan Staal and Malkin were second with eight each.
- Erik Christensen led the Rangers with five. Fire Ray Shero.
- Marc Staal led the game with 28:12 of ice time.
- Sergei Gonchar led the Penguins with 25:14.
- The Penguins had a 35-30 lead in faceoffs (54 percent).
- Crosby and Jordan Staal were each 13 for 21 (62 percent).
- Chris Drury was 9 for 13 (69 percent).
- Dan Girardi led the game with five blocked shots.
- Gonchar and Malkin each led the Penguins with three.
- Malkin extended his scoring streak to 15 games. That matches a career high.
- Alex Goligoski scored his first goal since Nov. 3. Yeesh.
- Brent Johnson might never have an easier win. He as forced to stop all of four shots.
- Mike Rupp has now appeared in 399 career games.
- Jordan Staal moved past Greg Polis for 47th place on the Penguins’ all-time scoring list. Staal now has 161 points while Polis has 158.
- Fedotenko moved past Rod Buskas and Bryan Smolinski for 112 place. All three have 64 points but Fedotenko has more goals.
- Goligoski’s point was the 50th of career.

Poni Another Tenk? Penguins Meet “Buffalo Hat” Guy!
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010As you already know some exciting news just hours before the trade deadline. Ray Shero traded top prospect Luca Caputi and defenseman Martin Skoula for left winger Alexei Ponikarovsky. He is commonly referred to by his teammates as “The Poni Express” , “The Ukraine Train” or simply “Poni”. We head over to PSAMP to get answer to a question thats on tip of everyones tongue: “Can Penguins and Ponies live in harmony?” His answer was … “Hey man they have on my blog for about 3 years now.”
On this note we continue. While Shero might still get some criticism on putting end to Luca Caputi rap album which was scheduled to be released just weeks before the trade, at the end of the day its what you get for your buck, right? So what do Pens get? When Ponikarovsky was heavily scouted in the January and weeks before the Olympics i have read some peoples opinions that stated Poni is going to be just another Ruslan Fedotenko. I can understand losing Skoula but is losing top prospect Luca Caputi for a rental Poni really worth it? Only time will tell. For now i’d like to compare the two players. Now Poni is Ukranian that much him and Tenk have in common. They both look cute when they were young…
Young Ruslan Fedotenko …

7 year old Alexei Ponikarovsky …
Lets look at the number comparisons:
Ruslan Fedotenko:
Age: 31
Date of birth: January 18, 1979
Place of birth: Kiev, USSR (now Ukraine)
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 195
Shoots: L
Salary: $ 1,800,000
NHL Seasons: 8
Alexei Ponikarovsky:
Age: 29
Date of birth: April 09, 1980
Place of birth: Kiev, USSR (now Ukraine)
Ht: 6-4 Wt: 220
Shoots: L
Salary: $ 2,500,000
NHL Seasons: 8
Pretty similar so far. Alexei definitely has the size advantage but how he is going to use it in front of the net is another question.
Ride Ride Ride that Poni
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010Say it with me now with your hands on your nipples…
As you may know the Pens recently traded Dman Martin Skoula and Prospect Luca Caputi for Maple Leafs Left Winger Alexei Ponikarovsky.

1 goal off of a 20 goal season, Poni boy is currently putting up 41 points in 61 games.
Jordan Leopold Takes On The Ice
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010Is Jordan Leopold going to solve all Penguins defense problems? Probably not, he is no Hal Gill or Rob Scuderi but he can certainly add depth. He doesn’t have the huge size and isn’t known for his shot blocking abilities. Leopold, 29, was one of Florida’s top defensemen. He was the team’s top penalty killing blueliner, while also logging 22:25 minutes of ice time per game – second most on the team. Leopold has also seen action for the Panthers in a shutdown role against opposing teams’ top players.
Here is what Dan Bylsma and Ray Shero think of Jordan:
“Jordan Leopold played against Alex Ovechkin every shift last time Florida played Washington,” head coach Dan Bylsma noted. “When his coaches decided who plays against the other team’s top line, it was Jordan. That may not be the case for us. … I think we’re getting a guy that will help us defend against the other teams’ good players. He’s proven that and has been counted on to be that for his team this year.”
“This is a guy that’s played against good players, whether it’s Ovechkin or other guys,” Shero said. “That’s what he’s done. When you’re playing 22 minutes a game, as he was in Florida, you’re going to get those assignments. They’ve got a few other guys that did that. Leopold was one of the guys.
“He’s one of their top penalty killers. He wasn’t playing as much on the power play but he still has seven goals. He’s a guy that can skate, move the puck; he’s got good NHL experience. I think for our group transitionally and not spending as much time in our end, I think that will be an important addition.”
Here are some of his stats:
Height: 6′ 1″
Weight: 200
Shoots: Left
Birthdate: Aug 3, 1980 (Age 29)
Birthplace: Golden Valley, Mn, United States
Last year during regular season he played 83 games and registered 65 hits and 100 blocked shots. Compare that to this year where in 61 games Leo already registered 59 hits and 107 blocked shots. Some career highs:
Two week blur of Hockey and Beer.
Monday, March 1st, 2010It’s all over.
It seems like forever since the Olympics began just two weeks ago, and yet the experience has flown by at the same time.
Tensions have been high between pens fans lately as our countries battled it out against one another and many are glad it’s over. But, with a disappointing finish for Russia, I think it’s safe to say that there will be some pressure from NHL players on Bettman to allow them to compete again in 2014.
