Massive Johnson Rubbing One Out!

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

During the game Steiger said Pens have had difficulty getting the first goal in hockey games lately. In fact up util last night they they have only scored the first goal on two of their nine home games. That could have been a problem again if it wasn’t for Sir Massive Johnson who really weathered the storm in the first period. Johnson with 31 saves and a massive assist on Gronk’s second goal.

M-M-M-MASSIVE JOHNSON!!!

FSN flashes some names of the players and number of games without a goal. Brook Orpik leading the list with something like 90+ games. Second on the list is Kris Letang, 20 games without a goal. 39 seconds into second period Tanger got that warm feeling he hasn’t expericed since November 28th, 2009. I guess Tanger really doesn’t want to get traded to Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues or Edmonton Oilers who are among 4-5 teams to have their eye on Letang. Some league speculation rampant that the Pens would move Letang for the right offer to enhance their chances of signing Sergei Gonchar. Team sources say Pittsburgh’s asking price is higher than the “Ryan Whitney” asking price from last year. For Pittsburgh to even consider moving Letang it’s going to take a young-to-mid 20′s impact winger and a top prospect. [insidepittsburghsports.com] I am going to keep out of trouble today and not comment of Tanger recent performance and what i really think Pens should do with him … because some puck bunnies might come after me with scissors.

Moving on … team Canada was upset twice last night … once when USA got the gold and second time when they saw Staal’s performance. What were they thinking?! Jordan Staal not on team Canada in Vancouver = no gold! Sorry Jordan is just a beast with 3 points last night, 2 goals and 1 assist, and his nose almost looks brand new. A little swelling still makes him look like a Jew!

Fedexpress ended Pittsburgh’s power-play slump. Tenk said … somebody had to do it!

Now to the juicy part of the game … Evgeni Malkin with an ASSIST of the season. I gotta do this right … the next segment of the post is called “How Geno single handedly disarms the whole Atlanta Thrashers team.”

Lets see there are 5 Atlanta Thrashers players on the ice plus a goalie. Lets count together …

1st thrasher… Geno schools him with a poke steal that was directed towards Ruslan and immediately spreads his wings and flies down the ice towards offensive zone.

2nd thrasher … Ruslan reads Geno’s memo and passes puck right back at him. Geno gets a hold of the puck and confronted by Kubina who ends up making snow angels on the ice. Geno in the fast lane.

3rd 4th and 5th thrasher … and Geno enters offensive zone and Pavelec knows he is up to something no good. Enstrom tries to believe in himself but rudely interrupted by Geno who steers the puck between Enstrom’s legs. 2 more thrashers come to Enstorm’s aid thinking they can bully Geno around. Wrong! Geno ties all 3 thrashes as they are all focused on him.

6th … thrasher goalie Pavelec … Geno falling down in front of the net with 3 thrashers on him finds the puck on his backhand. He shoots … Pavelec gives up a sweet rebound and gives up his position … Geno down on the ice still manages to make a quick puck poke to Tenk. Tenk is speechless he hasn’t seen anything like that in a while so he can’t figure out what to do fast enough. Lucky Luca Caputi is right behind him sees a wide open net like a Catholic School Girl … i mean Catholic Church Door spread open on Sunday morning and puts one away. Geno > Whole Thrashers Team. Shades of Mario!

Thanks to GhostWalker40 you can enjoy this over and over and over again.

Huge win for the Pens as they face Flyers on Thursday!

Some more good news … Chris Kunitz Undergoes Successful Surgery

Even more … Sergei Gnochar or Sergei Gonchard was practicing today as he hopes to come back on Thrusday!

I Will Not Relent, Never Suffer Defeat, Never Falter

Monday, January 4th, 2010

I am gonna go out of my usual style and try something i have never done before. Well desperate times call for desperate measures. So while some people are looking over possible trade deals i am keeping my faith alive and strengthening my beliefs. There is one song in particular that reflects exactly how i feel right now. Might not be easy to understand for the metal untrained ear so i am attaching lyrics below.

It’s Holidayitis – Don’t Worry Be Happy!

Monday, January 4th, 2010

No its not time to start ripping your hair out or hitting your head against the wall or throwing heavy objects at your TV screens. 5 games down in a row … Geno is in a little slump and not hiding it. Well it takes a real man to admit to your faults. Post-Gazette article offers some insight into what Geno is going through.

“It’s my fault tonight,” Malkin said. “After [Florida] scored a second goal, my game is not good, I know.”
“I don’t know,” Malkin said. “I’m trying to play simple, but I don’t know.”
“Maybe I relaxed a little bit [after Ottawa 8-2 win],” he said. “I don’t know.”
“I feel [physically] OK,” he said.
“We change lines every game and I play with [so many wingers], but my game is not good now,” he said.
There have been suggestions that Malkin would play better if his parents were here visiting from Russia. That idea almost put a smile on his face.
“No,” he said of that possible solution, then shrugged. “Maybe.
“I played before when my parents aren’t here and played better [than this].”
“It’s a hard time in my career, but my life is not over,” he said.

In my opinion Geno has a classic case of Holidayitis – yes its real for many Russians because new years time is one of the biggest holidays for all the former Soviet Union countries. I am myself have a severe condition of Holidayitis. I gained like 20 pounds … drinking alcohol non stop … even too lazy to get up and walk to a store thats around the corner. Can you really blame me? You could but your cries will not be heard. Last thing i can imagine right now is playing hockey. Of course its not my job to play hockey, unlike Geno, and i am not making excuses for him. I am simply offering a reason for whats is happening right now. I am offering a remedy to your hair ripping, head banding, tv throwing problems. That remedy is “Time”. No not the “Time” magazine but simply seconds ticking water dripping process that heals everything.

Do you remember last year’s holiday season? Well if you don’t then cbc.ca will remind you … “Maybe there is a kind of holiday blues connection for Malkin. When Malkin won the scoring title with 35 goals and 113 points last season, he went 10 games without a goal between Dec. 22 and Jan. 8.”

Once Geno comes out of his Holiday Hibernation he’ll be back and will be better than ever. Best part is that worst is behind us and the best is just around the corner. So don’t burn your Malkin jerseys just yet … CUZ GENO IS COMING BACK!!!!! DONT FORGET THAT MALKIN = GOD!

Love and Peace to you and your families! Stay positive and cheer on your team through thick and thin!

Penguins Support Crew – Moscow, Russia

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

In case you didn’t know people in Russia love hockey. In case you didn’t know people in Russia also love NHL. In case you didn’t know there are people in Moscow, Russia that love Pittsburgh Penguins! These fearless warriors call themselves Penguins Support Crew. Some of you might take it for granted to watch NHL games here in America and Canada but once there was a time when NHL was off limits for USSR/Russian TV viewers. Only limited NHL coverage became possible after USSR fall in 1990. Yet the roots of Penguins Support Crew could be traced as far back as 1989. At that time Pittsburgh Penguins beat visiting powerhouse Red Army team 4-2 in an exhibition game. In 1991 after USSR fall a Moscow Newspaper Sports Express at last made it easier to somehow follow Pittsburgh Penguins. This is during the time when Penguins went on to win 2 Stanley Cup titles in a row. Nowadays the internet helped to solidify the group of Penguins fans. There are many fans now that span several cities from the old Soviet Union such as St. Petersburg (Russia), Kiev (Ukraine), and Minsk (Belarus). For those fans that live in Moscow there is a local sports bar where the crew occasionally meets at night to watch Pens play live on a satellite feed. The group now has an internet website http://letsgopens.ru where members can keep in touch and talk about hockey and their favorite team.

In 2006 two members of the crew Evgeni Mihkeyev, 33, and Yaroslav Tretiakov, 27, have made the pilgrimage from their hometown of Moscow for a whirlwind tour that is to include three Penguins games — against the New York Rangers — and one at the home of the club’s top minor-league team. During their visit they were able to meet and talk to Sergei Gonchar and Konstantin Koltsov. [post-gazette.com] [penguins.nhl.com]

Here are also some pictures from when Evgeni Malkin paid a visit to the Penguins Support Crew. Look how happy they are! Priceless!

Pens lose again … Who is going to be our hero?!

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Can you hear me?

In times like these we have to ask ourselves several important questions.

How can you, I, our friends and children really trust that what we see on TV and hear on the radio is true?

How do we know that our opinions are really our own?

How can we be sure that the weak voices are heard and not scared into silence?

I can tell you how.

There is one person we can thank for all of this.

We can thank this person for giving us new perspectives.

We can thank this person for giving us a choice.

This person gives us an alternative to uniformity and short-term thinking.

We owe this person for making an ordinary day into something special.

A day when we rise from the TV couch and say: “I’ve changed my opinion.”

There’s only one word that does full justice to that person: Hero.

Thank you.

Hello friends … hope you all made your New Year resolutions. The only thing i am asking for is another Stanley Cup for the Pens in 2010. The highlights from escaping memories of 2009 include this one photo that recently came to light.
